Trump presidency tracker 2026: approval rating, impeachment markets, Cabinet exits, and pardons
Key highlights
- The Senate confirmed Todd Blanche as Attorney General 50 to 49 on August 8, 2026, ending the four-month vacancy opened by Pam Bondi's firing; Kalshi's next-Attorney-General contract resolved Yes on Blanche the same day.
- Silver Bulletin's polling average put Trump's approval at 38.2 percent on July 30, 2026, a second-term low, after AP-NORC, Quinnipiac, and CNN/SSRS each posted readings between 32 and 34 percent that same week.
- The administration has lost 27 Senate-confirmed Cabinet-department officials in the term's first 18 months, more than double the 11 who left in the same span of the first term, per the Partnership for Public Service.
What is still moving the presidency markets.
- Approval rating. AP-NORC and Quinnipiac put approval at 33 and 32 percent in their most recent July 2026 polls. Kalshi's Below 38% contract resolved Yes on August 5, 2026, once VoteHub's average touched that line; the deeper downside levels still trade, priced by their distance from the average, while the highest upside levels trade close to zero.
- Impeachment and exit. The swearing-in of a new Congress on January 3, 2027 is the catalyst these contracts price: the contract covering impeachment before 2028 prices well above the one covering impeachment before 2027, even though nothing else on the calendar changes between those two dates.
- Cabinet and personnel. The Senate confirmed Todd Blanche as Attorney General 50 to 49 on August 8, 2026, resolving the next-Attorney-General and confirmation-timing contracts. The open cabinet question is now the departure ladder, which prices who leaves their role next.
- Executive actions and pardons. The order-count ladder prices the middle of its range far more heavily than either extreme, reflecting a 2026 signing pace that has slowed to roughly a third of 2025's.
- The expansion agenda. None of the Greenland, Panama Canal, or 51st-state contracts has resolved Yes. The 2026-dated Greenland contracts settle within months, while the term-horizon versions run to January 2029, so the choice between them is mostly a choice of settlement window.
How prediction markets price the presidency.
Approval contracts name their average: Kalshi's approval ladder settles on VoteHub. Polymarket's settles on Silver Bulletin. Match a contract to its named average before comparing it to any headline poll.
Impeachment and removal are different contracts: Impeachment needs a House majority. Removal adds a two-thirds Senate conviction, which has never happened. Price the vote the contract actually requires.
The rules text decides settlement: Kalshi's agency-elimination rules count a full defunding or a merger of authorities, and its March 2026 clarification kept USAID unresolved because the agency's Inspector General still draws an appropriation. Read the rule before assuming the news settled it.
The cabinet trade moved to the departure ladder: The Attorney General question settled on August 8, 2026, when the Senate confirmed Todd Blanche. The live cabinet contracts now price who leaves their role next; each official trades separately, so the ladder reads as a ranked list of who the market judges most at risk.
Baseline turnover is already priced in: Most named officials trade in a narrow price band because some turnover happens in any administration. A name priced well above that band is one traders have singled out.
One group, one winner: The order-count, Greenland-price, and 51st-state groups each split a single event into options, and exactly one option pays. Judge any price against its whole group, never on its own. The next-Attorney-General group ran the same way until it resolved: seven names traded, and only Todd Blanche paid.
Only a completed acquisition settles these: The Greenland contracts need a completed purchase from Denmark. The Panama Canal contract needs US government control. Negotiation headlines settle neither.
What the midterm election changes.
- Impeachment. Impeaching a president takes a majority vote in the House, and the House elected in November takes its seats in January. That is why the contract on impeachment before 2028 prices well above the one on impeachment before 2027: the earlier deadline passes before the new House ever votes. The pattern has run before. After Democrats won the House in 2018, PredictIt's impeachment market swung between roughly 20 and 97 percent through 2019 as the news moved.
- Election-emergency contracts. These pay only if Trump formally declares a national emergency about the midterm itself, each version with its own deadline; if no declaration has happened by that date, the contract pays No. The final deadline runs through election day itself.
- The bull-case and bear-case bundles. Both carry the midterm as one of their conditions. The bull case needs Republicans to hold both chambers; the bear case needs Democrats to win the House. Election night decides a large piece of each.
How the approval contracts decide who gets paid.
- What a polling average is. A site that collects every new approval poll and blends them into one number, updated most days. Single polls disagree constantly; the average smooths them into one steady line. Kalshi's approval contracts read VoteHub's number and Polymarket's read Silver Bulletin's. The two will not always show the same figure, so check which one a contract names before comparing it to a poll in the news.
- One poll almost never moves it. Because the average blends dozens of polls, a single dramatic poll usually shifts it by a fraction of a point. It takes a run of polls pointing the same way to push the average through a contract's level, which is why these markets often barely react to a headline poll.
- Touching a level once is enough. A contract pays if its average reaches the stated level at any point before the end date, even for a single day. If approval falls through a level and later recovers, that contract's Yes is already decided; the recovery changes nothing.
- What buying one really means. Buying one of these is a bet that the average will reach that number at some point before the deadline. Where approval sits on the closing date is beside the point. A level two points away is really a question about whether a two-point move happens at any moment between now and then.
